Taking Digital Photos Under Water Can Be Simple

If you are a scuba diver then you must have a good idea how astounding underwater marine life is. With the myriad colors of different corals and fishes, it is not hard to be amazed with the beauty and diversity of the life underwater and this is why a lot of people want to take pictures of it. But what do you need to be able to take pictures underwater?

You will need an underwater digital camera that is water-proof. Some will also connect above to a VoIP enabled router on the boat for instant pics! There are various underwater digital cameras to choose from each with different features such as the number of megapixels, the maximum depth limit, the capability to take not just still images but moving images and many more. If you are simply a hobbyist buy an underwater digital camera with the highest megapixel that you can afford.

If you already have a digital camera you can choose to buy an underwater casing for your digital camera instead of buying an underwater digital camera itself. The price of an underwater casing for digital cameras is only a fraction of the cost of an underwater digital camera itself. Not all digital cameras have a corresponding underwater housing though so it is important to do research if your existing digital camera can be used underwater.

You will also need an underwater strobe light or external light as at depths of just about 20 feet there is no enough light for you to take a decent picture especially if you are snorkeling or scuba diving at early in the morning or at dusk.

Purchase also a wide angle lens in order to take clearer and detailed pictures that normal lens cannot give you. A wide angle lens will enhance your subject and denotes the background. This is also useful since the key to underwater photography is to get closer to your subject as much as you can.

These are just some of the basic things you need to get you started in taking breathtaking and seemingly out of this world underwater pictures. There are various underwater digital cameras such as Sony, Canon, Nikon, Leica and many more.
